Speaking on the theme for this year’s celebration, “Transform Ghana. Invest in Agriculture,” the Municipal Chief Executive of the Sunyani Municipality, Mr. Kwasi Oppong Ababio called on private investors to compliment the government’s efforts by investing into agriculture.
“I find the theme very appropriate and relevant because increased investment in agriculture would translate into increased foreign exchange or the country’s reserves and stabilization of the national currency.” He stressed.
Mr. Oppong Ababio assured the people that, the government would not relent on its efforts in ensuring greater agricultural productivity and self sufficiency in food and cash crop production. This according to the MCE is because the government has recognized the agricultural sector as a tool for the transformation of the national economy.
About 25 hardworking farmers were awarded at the 31st edition of the National Famers Day in the Sunyani Municipality. The Municipal Director of Agric, Mr. Samuel Y. Kwarteng was given a citation for his selfless and meritorious service.
The first Friday of December has been set aside since 1986 to recognize and honour dedicated men and women whose toils feed the nation.
