The Chief Executive Officer for Human care and Maintenance Foundation, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) in health Ms. Evelyn Bema Darkwah has hinted that donor partners in the national immunization exercise is set to redraw their funding support by 2021.
This she said successive governments have not demonstrate interest to improve and sustain the fund.
Ms. Darkwah who is the Vice President of the Brong Ahafo Regional Chapter of Ghana Coalition of NGO’s in health said this in an interview granted to spacefm morning flight show in sunyani at the back of the fund raising campaign to support immunization at Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo.
She therefore called for urgent establishment of national immunization fund to cater for the programme after donors redrawal. Adding that because Ghana is now a middle income country, the buck stops on the government to be self sufficient.
Ms. Bema reveals that 88,000 children’s are born annually in Ghana therefore, if governments is unable to manage the programme it dire consequence on the potential children’s of the country.
Ghana will need about 33 million Ghana cedis annually to finance the immunization exercise, she said.
She noted that even counter funding which suppose to be release early in support of the the immunization programme is not release timely and this should be a lesson for government to stand to the task.
She observed that, Dormaa municipality is among the districts which has not being able to reach the maximum number of children’s who are supposed to be immunize annually.
She therefore advised all carrier women to ensure that they sends their wards for weighing exercise until they reach five years.
She pledged support of the coalition of NGO’s in health to establish weighing centre’s in these communities to ensure timely access to the facilities.
