The Sunyani West satellite office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has engaged stakeholders in a meeting to deliberate on how to sustain the scheme.
The purpose of the meeting held at Odumase in the Sunyani west district of the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana, was to provide opportunity for stakeholders to discuss issues affecting the scheme and to find solutions to them.
In his welcome address, Scheme Manager for Sunyani west satellite office Mr. Paul Kusi implored on stakeholders to work collectively in order to sustain the scheme.
Speaking on the theme for the engagement “Sustaining National Health Insurance Scheme; the role of stakeholders,”Mr.Kusi cited, overcharges of drugs and tariff bills, health shopping, billing of drugs and services not rendered by providers as some of the challenges which if not addressed could collapsed the NHIS.
He therefore urged all stakeholders to do the right thing in order to sustain the policy. Service providers raised a concern of late payment of claims which according to them was crippling their efforts of providing healthcare and implored on the NHIS to pay claims promptly.
Participants at the meeting on consensus maintained the need to sustain the policy is a shared responsibility which every well-meaning Ghanaian should rend a hand.
